Recycling for almost 90 years!

Founded in 1918 by Maurice Sclar, Reliable Junk Company (as originally known) opened in downtown Frederick. The business once operated on E. All Saints Street then later relocated to Water Street. We have been at our current location since 1948.
As President of the company, until his passing in 1959, Maurice Sclar established himself as a trusted and highly respected citizen and businessman. That legacy was continued by his eldest son, Abraham, who was president of Reliable from 1959 until 1995. Abraham passed away in May of 2000. His son, Brian Sclar, continues to lead the company into the next generation by providing a highly efficient, environmentally friendly, state-of-the-art recycling center. Never losing focus on the family tradition of honesty and trust, courteous customer service and pride in our community. Over the years the company has continued to update the knowledge, equipment and
products it recycles.
